I’m part of the team that launched and maintains the San Diego Zoo Global Wildlife Conservancy Instagram account. It’s a blend of conservation stories, animal facts, species information, and fun, and I am responsible for most of the content.
A few posts I’ve written are below.
This week marks the 1st anniversary of Sudan's death. He was the last male northern white rhino on Earth. The species is critically endangered with only 2 remaining on the planet. Sudan's passing brings these gentle giants one step closer to extinction. But there is hope! We have a plan to bring his species back, and we're not giving up. Click the link in our bio and join us in the fight against extinction. 🦏❤️ #northernwhiterhinos #endextinction #sdzglobal #sudanforever #rhinorescue #rally4rhinos
🚨 MLEM ALERT 🚨 (Or is it blep?) Anyway, did you know that Andean bears are the only bear native to South America? Also called the spectacled bear because of the markings around their eyes, they live in tropical forests, scrublands, and grasslands. They forage for food in trees and make leafy platforms in the branches. Like many species, Andean bears are threatened by poaching, habitat loss, and conflict with people. San Diego Zoo Global has an Andean Bear Conservation Program and works with local Peruvian communities to study and save these beloved blep-ers. #mlem #blep #tongueouttuesday #andeanbear #endextinction #spectacledbear 📷 Deric Wagner
April is National Frog Month! How about some HOPPY news? Sit back to hear a RIBETting tale. 🐸 First of all, young frogs are called froglets 😍 And even better, a program to save a species of local little hoppers is growing by leaps and bounds. Mountain yellow-legged frogs are critically endangered, but our breeding and release program is showing HOPPIN' results. 259 froglets 😍 were reintroduced into their native habitat in the San Bernardino Mountains last year. The program's largest reintroduction to date! Thanks to the support of friends like you, we'll keep hoppin' along for these intriguing amphibians. #endextinction #sdzglobal #sanbernardinomountains #southerncalifornia #amphibians #nationalfrogmonth
